Coaches and some scientists still debate whether they should develop gymnasts’ stamina (cardiorespiratory endurance) similarly to other sports. This has led to different practices and arguments to justify and/or to deny them. Some have argued that high-level gymnasts practice for more than 30 hours, hence they would need to have the necessary fitness to endure such important training volume. Others argued that gymnasts would need a quite consistent level of cardiorespiratory fitness enabling them to recover between sessions and during intensive training.

In this lecture, Professor Jemni would go through the state of the art science around these arguments and would provide coaches, students and scientists with the cutting-edge scientifically-based evidence that would answer all these inquiries.
